International art in dialogue with thousands of years of history

In January 2022, at a time still marked by the coronavirus pandemic, I accepted a special invitation from my Belgian fellow artist, the sculptor Jorg van Daele. He had invited me to take part in the World Art Forum 2022 in Cairo together with international artists.

The setting for this extraordinary exhibition was the impressive National Museum of Egyptian Civilization – a place where contemporary art met Egypt’s thousands of years of history. Amid historical exhibits, a fascinating dialogue unfolded between past and present, between different cultures and forms of artistic expression.

I was particularly impressed by the overwhelming interest of the Egyptian public in international contemporary art. The large number of visitors, their openness and the many personal encounters made this exhibition an unforgettable experience.

Beyond presenting my work, the World Art Forum offered a wonderful opportunity to make international contacts, exchange artistic ideas and build new networks. Many of these encounters grew into valuable connections and prospects for future joint art projects.

Cairo 2022 was far more than an exhibition for me – it was an inspiring meeting of cultures and an impressive demonstration of how art connects people across borders.
